Josephine
They say in dreams a man can face
A thousand deaths and walk away
Or place upon some lovers lips
A midnight rose a secret kiss
Before the dawn returns again
To steal his dreams away
And if this is indeed the case
there is a dream which needs be placed
Into the mind of such a man
As holds our city in his hands
With plans to burn her to the ground
in league his command
now let him dream of josephine
that rendezvous in early spring
remember now her velvet touch
her flaxen hair her brandied blush
her house along that quiet street
upon whose steps they meet
Once in what seems like a lifetime ago
I loved you as though you were my very own
But destiny's bitter road leads me again
Back to the City of Lights
Now you are a prize for the devil himself
And I am the henchman ordered to help
Deliver you battered broken and burned
Into the halls of oblivion
and as he sinks in sleep each night
let josephine be his delight
let him live anothers life
a drowning man with second sight
and wake to think of her as his
and seek her everywhere
Til every street and stone and frame
seems to whisper out her name
from crypts below the city streets
to gargoyles upon churches steep
surround, consume and steal his thoughts
til only she remains
and as he raises up to strike
let him waiver from the fight
to see now not his enemy
but josephine eternally
within the city of her soul
immune to his command
